Sunday

Its a very steep hill down to Lynton which starts this walk this morning, however the views are great and the hill only lasts for a mile.

Good job we had a big breakfast to set us up for the day. We rounded the last corner and headed for a bench under an Apple tree just as the rain started for a cup of coffee, well it is 11 o’clock!

Lynton is quiet, most of the holiday makers have gone home. We decided to leave the village till later instead head to Lynmouth via the road as a change of going down the cliff railway path. Half way down, after several cyclist speed by ( 100 mile bike race) we witnessed a cyclist in the middle of the road heading down hill momentarily lose control, a car heading up the hill, rounded a blind bend. The bike wobbled ( how he kept control ) and barely missed the car.

Lunch time beckoned as we made our way to the end of Eastern Beach, the breakers are high and have attracted the attention of many surfers, so we pick an advantageous position, out of the rain to settle down with some free entertainment.

Satisfied ( numb bum more like) we head back to the shops, a lot more people have arrived, many walking dogs. The weather improves so water proofs off.

After a short rest at St Mary’s Church, ( great views from the bench in the cemetery), we head on back through the Valley of the Rocks.

A further stop on a bench by Lee  Abbey, allows us to finish off  what's left of the coffee, with a piece of malt loaf. The view across to Lee Bay is  even better than yesterday, or more dramatic, due to the high waves crashing over the rocks. A mile further on through the woods and we are back at camp.
